Who We Are
Education must enable a man to become more efficient, to achieve with increasing facility the ligitimate goals of his life. [...]The function of education, therefore, is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. But education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. [...] Intelligence plus character--that is the goal of true education. - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr (The Purpose of Education - 1947)
The goal of SUCCEEd is to use innovative pedagogical practices to promote success of sophomore-year engineering students at CSULA. A group of faculty from civil, mechanical and electrical engineering have been working hard for three years on securing a grant from National Science Foundation (NSF) and developing an exciting program that contextualizes the content between courses in the program and to practical engineering applications. The main objective of the program is to help students gain a better understanding of difficult concepts in Statics, Matrix Algebra, Programming and CAD (four classes covered in the program). Some of the features and advantages of the program include: SUCCEEd will better prepare students so they are ready for successful Junior and Senior years!
